Children’s Therapy

autism spectrum disorder (ASD)

Autism affects a child’s language, social communication, sensory processing, and routines in unique ways.

Support your autistic child

Autism affects a child’s language, social communication, sensory processing and routines in unique ways.  Every child is different.  This may present as delayed language, repeating what others say (echolalia), communicating through scripts, difficulty understanding what is said, or differences in interacting with peers or making conversation.

Through play-based, strengths-based, and child-led intervention sessions, our Speech-Language Pathologists offer strategies to help your child:

»  Expand communication based on your child’s learning

»  Build understanding of spoken language

»  Build interactions and a “back and forth” with you

»  Help share interests and joy with others

»  Learn to understand others’ perspectives

»  Gain tools for interacting with peers

»  Reach personal goals in social settings

»  Practice these skills in social groups with peers

»  Support their emotional regulation

Every child is

unique.

Our therapists focus on your child’s strengths to help them grow in these areas.  We provide neurodiversity-affirming care that celebrates your child for who they are and respects their independence.

Occupational Therapy support

Many autistic children experience differences in how they process sensory information.

Our Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP’s) and Occupational Therapists (OT’s) frequently collaborate to ensure your child’s sensory needs are met during their therapy sessions.  They work diligently to ensure your child’s gains are maintained across both types of therapies.

Our Occupational Therapy Programs can help with :

Sensory Sensitivities

Where a child may avoid certain sounds or environments, or avoid different types of textures

Sensory Seeking

Where a child may constantly move, touch, taste, or make noises in order to self-regulate

Emotional Regulation

Where a child may have difficulty in managing big feelings as related to stress, frustration,  or anxiety

Your child may qualify for the Ontario Autism Program (OAP).

The provincial government offers support to families of children on the autism spectrum through the Ontario Autism Program (OAP).  There are a range of free programs as well as financial support for those who qualify.  Click below to learn more.
