Adult speech therapy

Communication is an important tool to master, both in the home and in the workplace.  Conveying our messages effectively leads to productivity and personal growth.  Let us help you become a powerful communicator.

Helping you speak clearly and be understood

We offer a variety of programs to help you speak clearly and concisely, designed with your personal difficulties in mind.  The programs will provide you with life-long tools and the confidence to speak freely with friends, coworkers and authority figures.

Accent

Accent Reduction

Your accent is a lovely part of who you are but it might inhibit you from being fully understood by others.  Some feel that improving their English speaking will lead to better career opportunities or more meaningful relationships.  And others just like the idea of sounding more ‘Canadian’ when talking with their friends and coworkers.

Professional

Professional Communication

Speaking, in a professional capacity, can be stressful.  Whether it’s during a presentation, a job interview, or chatting with your manager, we sometimes experience a heightened level of anxiety resulting in increased speaking errors.  These may present as stuttering, misspeaking, mispronunciations, or not finding the right words when we need them.

Voice

Voice Disorders

We’ve all experienced problems with our voice at one time or another.  Think about the time you ‘lost’ your voice after a concert or had a hoarse voice after a cold.

Your vocal cords are two flexible bands of muscle tissue that sit at the entrance of the windpipe.  When your vocal cords vibrate, sound is created.  When these bands become inflamed, develop growths, or become paralyzed,  you may develop a Voice Disorder.

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT)

The muscles of the mouth and face, or the Orofacial Complex, play a significant role in vital tasks such as drinking, eating, and breathing.  They also impact our social interactions as they’re involved in speaking and in expressing emotions.  When these muscles are used incorrectly during rest, swallowing, or speech, the result is an Orofacial Myofunctional Disorder (OMD).
